After nearly 13 years, Red House Painters‘ classic album Songs For a Blue Guitar will finally be issued on double 180-gram vinyl on <strike>April 21st, 2009</strike> June 16th, 2009 (new date!). If you’d like, Insound is now pre-selling this piece of magic that will arrive on your doorstep on or around its release date. I can imagine cracking open the plastic, sliding that heavy slab onto the turntable and hearing the familiar mournful sound of “Have You Forgotten” waft into the room. Though most, if not all the other RHP albums have appeared on vinyl, the details behind the release of this record on UMG/Supreme Recordings must have somehow precluded it from being issued on vinyl at the time. I can imagine securing the rights from Universal/Island was a difficult task, so kudos to Plain Recordings for making this happen. Somewhat curious that Mark Kozelek‘s own Caldo Verde Records did not helm this release, considering how vinyl-happy they have been over the past few years. Either way, this is such great news. Let’s get nostalgic, together.
